Live Edge

Bad news first.  The tree is officially too far gone.  There were too many summers of not enough water and last fall's work was not enough to save it.  The arbor specialist told us that we could maybe trim it back but that it would most likely not survive. 

Now we have a tree that has to be cut down so that it doesn't become a safety/fire hazard.   

So here's the good news, we are going to get the tree cut professionally and use all the parts possible in the new house.  We hope to use the base of the tree as our future family dining table (Click here for some examples using Google Image Search).  The tree is large enough that we could probably end up with enough good wood to do all sorts of other projects as well.  Tables, mantles, beams...any other ideas?

It's hard to tell how massive the tree really is without a sense of perspective.  Here's Erin being a 'tree hugger' so you can get a sense of how big the tree is: 

So that is our next project at the house.  We have a lead on a person in Cle Elum that can get the cuts done, but haven't contracted him out yet.  If you know of anyone that does live edge woodworking, drop us a line!
